Hyderabad: The cybercrime police of Cyberabad on Saturday busted an organised inter-state cyber fraud racket and apprehended six persons involved in vishing (aka voice phishing), SIM manipulation, OTP diversion, and fraudulent online banking transactions.
The arrested are Selim Mondal, Mehbub Alam Ansary, Saiyad Hasim Reza, Bansidhar, Abdul Alim Shaik, and Minhaj ur Rahman Shaik. The six persons impersonated as officials of a private bank credit card division and induced victims to convert e-SIMs into physical SIM cards.
“Under the pretext of Department of Telecom (DoT) verification, they sent SIM cards containing malicious applications. Upon insertion of SIM cards, one time passwords and banking alerts were diverted to the suspects enabling them unauthorised access to bank accounts and execution of fraudulent online transactions,” said DCP Cyber crimes, T Sai Manohar.
