Warangal Urban: Residents ares in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation limits will get daily water supply from next Ugadi festival, announced the Municipal Administration and Urban Development minister K T Rama Rao in Hyderabad on Monday.

At a high-level meeting held with ministers, elected representatives and officials in Hyderabad to review developmental works in GWMC limits Rama Rao directed officials to start daily water supply for city dwellers on a daily basis from the coming Ugadi. He said several measures were initiated to improve drinking water supply situation in Warangal city since the formation of the Telangana State.

“Under Mission Bhagiratha- Urban programme, we took up several infrastructure projects required for drinking water supply in the city on a largescale,” he said adding that water supply in the city had increased from just 30 MLD to 168 MLD.

“While the city had 1400 km of pipelines in the past, another 1400 km of pipelines had already been laid and laying of another 500 km of pipelines will be completed soon.  We have spent Rs 1,000 crore under Mission Bhagiratha and the works are expected to be completed by the coming Ugadi,” the Minister said.

District Collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu and GWMC commissioner Pamela Satpathy said that the water project had been designed to meet the drinking water demand of the city dwellers till 2048.

On the occasion, the minister directed the municipal authorities recruit 200 staff immediately with the help of the National Academy of Construction (NAC) in Hyderabad to strengthen water supply system in Warangal city. He also asked the Engineer-in-Chief (ENC), Municipal Engineering Department and other senior officials to visit Warangal every week to review the  progress of works till a plan was drawn up to supply drinking water every day.

Stating that about 1.70 lakh households in Warangal city have tap connections, Rama Rao instructed the officials to provide connections to the remaining houses as soon as possible and enlighten the people on getting connections by paying one rupee. He had also reviewed the progress of construction of about 3,700 double bedroom houses (2BHK) in GWMC area. The Corporaton Commissioner Pamela Satpathy informed that  the construction of about 800 houses ws completed and the majority of the houses were nearing completion. The ministers said they would soon inaugurate 800 houses and hand over them to beneficiaries.

The minister directed the officials to continue with the infrastructure facilities like Model Junior College along with the District Collectorate, and complete them soon. “Construction of Vaikuntha Dhamams, urban parks and sports complexes taken up under the ‘Pattana Pragathi’ programme should be completed at the earliest. The State Government was giving Rs 7.33 crore every month to the GWMC under Pattana Pragathi programme and so far the government had provided about Rs 81 crore under the scheme,” he added.

Responding to this, officials said that more than 440 works have either been completed or were in progress. The Minister also reviewed the projects taken up under Smart City Mission and HRIDAY and added that a high-level review meeting would also be held at the Warangal Municipal Corporation soon.

Speaking on the occasion, Ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Satyavathi Rathod thanked the Chief Minister and the state government for taking a special initiative for the development of Warangal city like never before by allocating Rs 300 crore in the State budget every year.
