Karimnagar: Construction labourers have become the owners of a dairy unit. Laborers, who used to get a meagre amount by attending daily wage work, are able to earn Rs 40,000 per month by selling milk. Thanks to Dalit Bandhu scheme which changed the lives of a poor dalit family.
In order to bring comprehensive growth in the lives of dalit, state government has launched dalit bandhu and selected Huzurabad constituency to implement the scheme on pilot basis. A resident of Jupaka of Huzurabad mandal, Ellendula Harish was also selected for the scheme in October 2021 and Rs 10 lakh amount was deposited in his bank account.
Shailaja drawing milk from buffalo
Harish, who used to attend construction work along with his wife Shailaja, has purchased four buffaloes in the first phase. He with the help of animal husbandry department officials and Karimnagar dairy authorities went to Rohtak district of Haryana state and brought four buffaloes.
To provide shelter to buffalo, he built a shed at his home premises by spending Rs 1.50 lakh. The couple, now looking after the milch animals, is able to get 40 liters of milk daily and are getting Rs 40,000 a month by supplying milk to Karimnagar dairy. Excluding fodder and other expenditures, they are able to earn Rs 30,000 per month.
Terming Dalit Bandhu as a boon for his family, Harish thanked the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for introducing the scheme. Earlier, he along with his wife used to work as construction labourers and visit other villages to attend work. However, they were able to earn Rs 40,000 per month by staying at home by establishing a dairy unit. He was contemplating purchasing four more buffalos by spending the remaining amount.
Besides earning Rs 1 lakh per month, providing employment to two more people was his aim, he informed and expressed confidence to achieve his target. The couple has two daughters who were studying in Social Welfare Residential School, Sircilla.
