Mancherial: As a prelude to Dandari-Gussadi festival, Dandari troupes visited the ancient Padmalpuri Kako temple at Gudirevu village in Dandepalli mandal on Sunday.

Wearing crowns made of peacock feathers, troupes belonging to several parts of erstwhile Adilabad and tribals from neighboring Maharashtra made a beeline to Gudirevu and thronged the temple. They showcased popular dance form, Gussadi, enthralling devotees. Adivasi women and men danced to the beats of traditional musical instruments.

The surroundings of the shrine were reverberated with drum beats and euphonious music of instruments played by the tribal artistes. The air was totally filled with the much gaiety and pomp of the festival. The troupes and tribals arrived at the sacred place by tractors, trolleys and jeeps. They were fed by the organisers of the fair.

Priests of Gond and Kolam communities performed traditional rituals at the temple. The ethnic tribes presented offerings to the deity and some of them sacrificed animals. They took a dip in the river before entering the shrine.

The sleepy village has come alive with the arrival of the troupes. Security was stepped up to prevent untoward incidents. Padmalpuri Khako is the seventh daughter of Niranjan Guru, a god who is said to be born out of water.
