Karimnagar: BRS working president KT Rama Rao invoked the spirit of Telangana’s historic struggle for statehood, urging party members and the public to stand against the Congress government for its betrayal of the people of Telangana.

He called for a fight to ensure the Congress delivers its electoral promises over the next four years, by taking inspiration from the Telangana agitation led by BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to realise Telangana statehood.

He participated in the Deeksha Diwas celebrations at Alugunoor near Karimnagar on Friday, marking the fast unto death launched by Chandrashekhar Rao on November 29, 2009. The BRS cadre took out a bike rally on the occasion.

Addressing a gathering on the occassion, Rama Rao said the Congress was misleading the public with false promises, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among people across the State. Referring to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, he said the one who aimed his rifle against Telangana agitators was now ruling the State and speaking as per his whims, without realising that though he was in power, K Chandrashekhar Rao was ruling the hearts of people of Telangana.

“Students are dying due to poor quality food in residential welfare schools, and people are terrified to step out due to police excesses. However, the government is celebrating its first anniversary as if these were its achievements,” he remarked.

Contrasting the Congress’ rule with Chandrashekhar Rao’s transformational leadership, the BRS working president said the BRS chief was unparalleled while Revanth Reddy was nowhere close. He stated that Chandrashekhar Rao was the architect of Telangana’s statehood.

Recalling the indefinite hunger strike of Chandrashekhar Rao that ignited the final phase of the Telangana movement, Rama Rao remembered the challenges faced, including Chandrashekhar Rao’s arrest and the sacrifices of martyrs like Srikanthachari and police constable Kishtaiah.

He stressed that young generations should understand Chandrashekhar Rao’s role beyond his previous tenure as the Chief Minister of Telangana. He pointed out the former Chief Minister’s resilience in leading the movement without significant resources, muscle power, or political backing.
