Adilabad: The prolonged delay in inaugurating the IT tower in Adilabad has left jobseekers disheartened.
The then BRS government sanctioned the IT tower in 2023 to create employment opportunities for engineering graduates in the backward district. The facility was built on 32 acres near Battisavargaon village in Adilabad Rural mandal at a cost of Rs 50 crore. It was designed to generate 2,000 jobs.
The state-of-the-art tower is equipped with a modern kitchen and dining hall, enabling employees to work round the clock. It also has spacious meeting rooms and a parking facility. The building can accommodate 660 employees per shift and at least 10 IT companies, each with 200 staff members.
The multi-storey facility had raised hopes among jobseekers in the region. Engineering graduates who were forced to migrate to Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune and Nagpur in search of jobs welcomed the tower’s establishment in Adilabad. They hoped to find employment close to home and work from their hometown.
Construction of the ambitious 68,000-square-foot tower was completed a few months ago. Two companies have since commenced operations in the town, providing employment to 300 youngsters. However, the tower is yet to be formally inaugurated. The delay has turned what was seen as a landmark step in Adilabad’s development into a source of frustration.
Although some companies have come forward to set up branches at the facility, the tower has not been officially inaugurated. As a result, local engineering graduates fear they are missing out on employment opportunities. Many continue to depend on distant cities for work, incurring substantial hostel and living expenses while staying away from their families.
“The then IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao sanctioned the tower to decentralise the IT sector and extend development to all parts of Telangana. The facility is a major step towards expanding the IT sector to Tier-II towns. The Congress is deliberately delaying the inauguration, fearing that the BRS would claim credit,” said Gadge Deepak, a youngster from Mukhra (K).
