Hyderabad: The Desk Journalists’ Society (DJS) on Monday staged a protest in front of the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department office demanding that the government rectify injustice in the issuance of media accreditation cards.
The DJS expressed concern that several desk journalists with over 10 to 12 years of professional experience have been denied accreditation despite fulfilling the eligibility criteria. It alleged that accreditation applications are being rejected on unreasonable grounds.
Addressing the gathering, DJS president Badini Upender urged the government to issue new accreditation cards immediately, as the validity of bus passes linked to old accreditation cards expires on June 30. He warned that any further delay would deprive many journalists of the bus pass facility and cause serious inconvenience.
It also requested that unused quota meant for women journalists, wherever no eligible woman journalist is available in an organisation, be allotted to other eligible journalists working in the same establishment.
