Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Heavy rains in upstream areas led to the swelling of the Pranahita River and a nearby stream, leaving Dimda village in Chintalamanepalli mandal completely cut off from the rest of the region on Thursday.

The village, situated between the two water bodies, was isolated after both were in spate. Residents, living in fear since the disconnection, urged officials to relocate them to safer areas and ensure basic safety measures are in place.

Several other low-lying habitations along the banks of the Pranahita and Peddavagu rivulets are also reportedly facing the risk of being cut off. With roads damaged by the rains, villagers are struggling through slushy stretches and relying on two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, and jeeps to reach mandal centres and nearby towns.

Meanwhile, standing crops, including cotton and paddy, were submerged by the backwaters of the Pranahita river at Somini, Mogavelli, and Talayi villages in Bejjur mandal, inflicting losses on farmers. Locals said crop damage was significant and urged officials to conduct a survey and assess the extent of the damage.

Irrigation projects such as Kumram Bheem and Vattivagu received heavy inflows due to continuous rains in the catchment areas. Authorities have lifted the crest gates of both projects to discharge surplus water downstream. Villagers have been advised to remain cautious, and fishermen were warned against venturing into the rivers.
