Hyderabad: A day after the AICC announced the new District Congress Committee (DCC) president appointments, internal turmoil erupted in the Congress, with several leaders expressing dissatisfaction over the party high command’s decision, and a few aspirants submitting resignations from party membership.
Former TPCC official spokesperson and Dornakal in-charge DY Giri tendered his resignation to AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan in protest against the appointments. Giri, who has been associated with the party for 11 years, said he had consistently worked for the party through several challenges, yet the leadership was ignoring loyal workers. He alleged that the Mahabubabad Congress unit was being run by a leader in a dictatorial manner.
He stated that despite indulging in anti-party activities, the leader continued to dominate the unit, while the Mahabubabad and Dornakal MLAs were acting like mute spectators.
“It is unfortunate that the MLA’s wife has been appointed as DCC president. This reflects the Congress party’s values and commitment towards its rules,” Giri said.
Similarly in Nalgonda, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s supporter and District Youth Congress former president G Mohan Reddy raised objections over the new appointments. He told media persons on Sunday that he had worked hard for the party’s success and expected the high command to offer him a DCC post, but loyal leaders were never recognised and caste equations were being prioritised.
He said that despite a majority of leaders in the erstwhile Nalgonda backing his candidature, the State leadership did not consider his name, leaving him disappointed. He added that he had expected to be appointed TGRTC Chairman.
