Hyderabad: The Union Health Ministry on Saturday has made it mandatory for all Covid healthcare facilities to admit patients with suspected symptoms and not insist for a Covid positive test result.
The requirement of Covid positive test is not mandatory for admission and Covid suspected case should be admitted to the suspect ward of the facility, the Health Ministry said in its revised clinical guidelines to treat Covid patients.
The fresh directives from the Health Ministry are aimed at ensuring private and government hospitals provide quick admission and treatment to sick patients first, instead of demanding Covid tests, which are already hit by inordinate delays due to heavy demand.
The guidelines also said that “patient will not be refused services on any count including medications like oxygen or essential drugs even if the patient belongs to a different city. No patient shall be refused admission on the ground that he/she is not able to produce a valid identity card that does not belong to the city where the hospital is located”.
The Union Health Ministry has advised all the Chief Secretaries of States to issue necessary orders incorporating the revised guidelines to government and private healthcare facilities. The private and government hospitals were also directed to ensure that the hospital beds are not occupied by persons who do not need hospitalisation.
