Dream come true: Hyderabad lad hits 100% in JEE Main
Hyderabad student Vivan Sharad Maheshwari emerged as the lone 100 percentile scorer from Telangana in JEE Main 2026 Session 1, topping the State even as 12 candidates nationwide secured perfect scores, according to results declared by the NTA
Hyderabad: Only one student – Vivan Sharad Maheshwari – from Telangana secured 100 percentile in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 session -1 paper 1 (BE/BTech) results, which were declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday. Vivan from Hyderabad was also the State topper. Last year, three students had bagged 100 percentile.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, Vivan said it was a dream come true for his family and him to top the JEE Main. “After going through the response sheet, I got a hint that I will get a secure top mark and that came true. My family and I are absolutely happy to see the result,” he said.
As for his preparation, Vivan said he focussed and followed the schedule and teaching material provided by his college.
“My entire focus has been on preparation. For the last two years, although I had a social media account, I tried to stay away from it. I used to go out for family vacations, recreational activities or play sports, which helped beat the stress. Now, I am preparing for JEE Advanced,” he said.
Except for Vivan, who was also among the 11 toppers in the general category nationwide, no other student from Telangana figured in other categories. Overall, 12 candidates, including two from Andhra Pradesh, secured 100 percentile in JEE Main paper 1 for BE/BTech.
A total of 13,55,293, including 4,67,817 girls and 8,87,476 boys, registered and 13,04,653, with 4,49,568 girls and 8,55,085 boys, appeared for the JEE Main session 1. The National Testing Agency has not declared scores of 68 candidates as they were found indulging in unfair practices/discrepancies in identity verification.
Before announcing the result, the NTA released the final key and dropped nine questions, with the physics section being most impacted, accounting for seven dropped questions. The remaining two dropped questions were in Mathematics and no question in Chemistry was dropped. JEE Main 2026 session 2 will be conducted between April 2 and 9.
