Kothagudem: A man was arrested for attempting to attack police with a sickle for conducting drunk-and-drive checks at Thoggudem under Manuguru police station limits.

In a statement police said that during vehicle inspections near Sammakka Sarakka Temple on Wednesday, the man driving under the influence of alcohol was stopped for a breathalyser test. He was sent back home after his blood alcohol content (BAC) was found to be 0.08 percent.

However, he returned armed with a sickle and tried to attack on-duty police personnel challenging them for subjecting him to a drunk-and-drive test. The accused Solem Nageswara Rao was arrested on Thursday and remanded to judicial custody, the statement added.
