Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Special Operations Team and the Shamirpet police caught four persons carrying Rs 40 lakh, allegedly to be distributed to voters ahead of the Dubbak Assembly bypoll, on the city outskirts here on Monday night. Police seized the amount.
Police sources said the four — Srinivas Babu, B Anjaneyulu, P Suresh and Mohd Majid — were caught near Shamirpet transporting the cash in two cars. Further inquiry revealed that the unaccounted cash was being taken from Patancheru to be distributed to the voters in the Dubbak constituency, where the bypoll is to be held on November 3.
The police have taken up investigation of the source of the cash, which was to be delivered to a BJP functionary. Sources said the cash belonged to BJP candidate Raghunandan Rao. “We caught four people with the unaccounted cash to be used in the polls. It belongs to a BJP leader. More details will be known after further interrogation. Our teams are still questioning them,” said VC Sajjanar, Police Commissioner, Cyberabad.
The seized cash will be handed over to the Income Tax authorities as the four could not give any satisfactory reply about where they got the cash from.
