Hyderabad: The Editors Guild of India has expressed grave concern over the arrest of city-based journalist Revathi by the Hyderabad police and demanded that the government to safeguard the arrested journalists rights and personal safety.
The Guild has further urged the government to “ensure that any action taken against journalists follows due process and upholds the principles of free expression and justice”. “The arrest of a journalist – particularly in a pre-dawn operation – rises serious concerns about the use of police force in such matters”, the Guild said.
In a statement issued in Delhi on Wednesday, the EGI noted that Revathi was picked up from her house along with her husband in the early hours of Wednesday.
The EGI statement signed by the president Ananth Nag general secretary Ruben Banerjee and treasurer K Ve Prasad reminded the journalists of the importance of fairness and responsibility in their reportage, ensuring that news is presented accurately and without malice.
