Hyderabad: Though the Covid-19 pandemic was a difficult period, but like any crisis, it was also an opportunity for change. The last nearly 21 months for the education sector has been a transformative time, Commissioner of Technical and Collegiate Education Navin Mittal said on Tuesday.
Addressing a seminar on ‘Impact of Covid-19 on Education (pre and post)’ organised by ICBM-School of Business Excellence, Attapur, in collaboration with Telangana Today and Namasthe Telangana at the college, Mittal said sectors like e-commerce, health, mobility and music were transformed with the advent of technology but the education sector was slow in adopting technology.
“The last 21 months has done to the education sector, what probably a decade of time would have actually done. There has been so much change,” he said.
Stating that there was huge improvement in educational software and a lot of changes that came in content, Mittal said online proctored exams were also being offered to students as well, which was rarely seen earlier. As for the future of education, he said it would be neither fully online or offline classes, but a blend of both.
The nature of the classroom should shift from mere information providing to being a place of learning, he said, adding that information could be provided in a personalised way where students can learn at their pace. The future of education would be hybrid mode where content would be online and the classroom would be a forum for discussion and analysis besides learning, he opined.
In his talk on ‘Indian Economics Drivers’, Crux Management Services Hyderabad president Dr Vikas Singh advised students not to look for jobs that give higher salaries today but to look at opportunities that would give the best returns in the next 10 years.
Stating that health was a key to growth of an economy, Singh said productivity depends on the health of the worker. Any investment on health was a five time multiplier, he said. Germanten Hospitals (Hyderabad) chairman and managing director Dr Mir Jawad Zar Khan, talking on ‘Online Learning – Health-related Challenges’, said vaccination against Covid-19 was very effective and resulted in cases coming down. However, people should not lower their guard.
Dr Khan also insisted on regular fitness training and proper diet during online classes and also asked students to maintain proper bone density weight.
ICBM director Dr Zarar, welcoming the gathering, said that a proper seminar was being held after 18 months. He hoped that such seminars would continue to be held in future. The seminar was followed by an interactive session.
