Kothagudem: The State government and Telangana police have been making persistent efforts to keep the State free of Maoist activities, Director General of Police (DGP), M Mahender Reddy said on Wednesday.
The DGP was speaking after a tour of Maoist-affected areas on the inter-State border in Mulugu and Kothagudem districts apart from visiting a police base camp at Chennapuram in Cherla mandal in the district. The DGP’s visit to the district comes ahead of the 21st People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) Week celebrations from Dec 2 to 8.
Later, the top cop held a high-level meeting with senior police officials at Sarapaka ITC guest house to review the steps being taken to check naxal movements in Kothagudem and Mulug districts.
CRPF Additional DGP, Lakshmi Shukla, Additional DGP Greyhounds, K Sreenivas Reddy, Chief of Operations, Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) T Prabhakar Rao, Superintendents of Police of Kothagudem and Mulug, Sunil Dutt and Sangramsingh Patil, OSD, V Tirupathi, ASPs Dr. P Shabarish, Dr. Vineeth G, B Rohith Raju and Akanksh Yadav attended the meeting.
Speaking to the media, Mahender Reddy commended the work being done by Kothagudem and Mulugu SPs Dutt and Patil in containing the Maoists movements effectively. Maoist menace was being overcome with collective efforts of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Greyhounds, SIB and district police officials, he said.
The District Collectors and other district officials were addressing the problems of the people and developing roads providing logistic support, the DGP said.
Meanwhile, police officials advised political leaders not to move in the interior areas of the district in view of the PLGA Week. TSRTC officials too have stopped operating bus services to the agency villages in the district.
