Enforce lockdown strictly: Telangana DGP to cops
Apart from strictly implementing lockdown on main stretches, the police should take necessary steps in enforcing it even in colonies and interior roads, DG instructed
Hyderabad: Director General of Police M Mahendar Reddy on Wednesday instructed the officials to temporarily seize vehicles that are plying on roads without permission during lockdown.
The DGP gave the instructions while interacting with the Commissioners of Police and Superintendents of Police in the districts through video conference to review the enforcement of lockdown that has been extended up to May 30.
He said the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was reviewing the district-wise implementation of lockdown everyday. The lockdown must be enforced more strictly from now onwards, he said, adding that relaxation was given from 6 am to 10 am but a majority of people were thronging markets and shops after 8 am in large numbers to purchase essential commodities.
In order to prevent it, the police should educate people on utilising the relaxation timing from 6 am. Since more people are seen on roads after 10 am, the senior officials should monitor the situation from the field-level from 9.45 am to ensure that no crowd is seen after 10 am, Reddy said.
Apart from strictly implementing lockdown on main stretches, the police should take necessary steps in enforcing it even in colonies and interior roads. Since chances of spreading the virus was more at fish and vegetable markets, the police officials must initiate measures to decentralize these markets with the coordination of Marketing and Municipal Administration departments and reduce overcrowding, he said.
Blowing siren, the police patrolling vehicles should visit areas in their jurisdiction after completion of lockdown relaxation timing at 10 am and clear the crowd on roads. “The department is getting necessary cooperation from the public and no complaints have been received against it so far,” he said.
As the government gave permission to open petrol filling stations across the State, only vehicles that have valid passes, ambulances and those transporting oxygen should be permitted.
