Environmental protection top priority for TS govt: Indrakaran

Nirmal: Forests Minister A Indrakaran Reddy opined that environmental conservation was possible only through restoring mother nature. He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao already realised importance of environment and conceptualised many programmes to protect the natural resources.
He was speaking at a virtual meeting held to mark the World Environment Day on Saturday. Special Chief Secretary and Environment Protection and Training Institute (EPTRI) Director General Adhar Sinha, Special Chief Secretary for Forests Rajath Kumar and Telangana Pollution Control Board secretary Neetu Kumari Prasad participated in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Indrakaran said the State government was giving paramount importance for protecting the environment and intiatives like Telanganaku Harita Haram were yielding desired results. The massive plantation drive helped increasing greenery of State by four percent and resulted in raising population of wild animals. He stated that with Kaleshwaram project, the government was not only able to address the irrigation and drinking water needs of the State, but also helped the conservation of several flora and fauna in the forest areas.
He stated that one of major causes of destruction of bio-diversity was ecological imbalance where cutting of trees for agricultural purposes in the forests areas was also contributing to the menace, which would have adverse impact on humans in many ways.
Indrakaran further stated that protection of environment could not be achieved by merely a person or system, but by participation of the public. He told officials concerned to create awareness among people on this issue and explain to them about the relationship between the environment and biodiversity. He underlined role of TSPCB, EPTRI and Forest department in achieving goals of environment protection. He requested everyone to take part in the protection and to realise theme of this year- visualise nature and create it.
