Hyderabad: The State Health Department on Friday said that it has come across significant errors in the NITI Aayog report, which assessed the performance of government district hospitals in Telangana. The NITI Aayog report on the performance of district hospitals in India was released on Thursday, and it turns out that the public policy think tank considered only the 2011 population census of Telangana and did not take into account the revised population, after the formation of new districts in the State.
“It appears that they have taken 2011 census into consideration. New district population needs to be taken for counting the number of beds. We are in the process of getting the hospital beds and district population corrected and sent to NITI Aayog for rectification,” senior health officials on Friday told Telangana Today.
As a result, the NITI Aayog report indicated that the beds and manpower in district hospitals of Sangareddy, Khammam, King Koti, Karimnagar, Tandur, Vikarabad and Nalgonda were not commensurate with the local population. According to senior officials familiar with the development, the error in the NITI Aayog survey impacted the rankings of the district hospitals, as they could not get high scores in the availability of hospitals beds and manpower category but scored highly in the availability of diagnostic services, providing essential healthcare services in dialysis, availability of super-speciality doctors and ICU facilities.
Overall, in the category of functional beds available for 1 lakh population, the district hospitals in Telangana were ranked 10th out of 24 healthcare facilities in India, which was the third-lowest in the country. The NITI Aayog report that analysed the availability of doctors, nurses and paramedics also impacted the rankings of the district hospitals. A detailed report on the corrections that are needed to be taken up, which will impact the performance of district hospitals and its rankings in the survey report, has been sent to NITI Aayog.
