Every grain of paddy will be procured from farmers: Khammam Collector

Khammam: Around 8,000 tonnes of paddy has been procured from farmers through 120 procurement centres in the district so far, informed District Collector RV Karnan. It was targetted to procure about 4.50 lakh metric tonnes of paddy through Civil Supplies Corporation in this Yasangi season. The rice milling capacity in the district is 46, 000 metric tonnes. Steps have been taken for the milling of the remaining quantity of paddy in other districts, he said.
The Collector along with Sathupalli MLA S Venkata Veeraiah held a meeting here on Saturday with the officials of agriculture, civil supplies and revenue departments to review the progress of paddy procurement in the season. Karnan assured the farmers that every grain of paddy would be procured and asked the farmers in the district to follow the State government guidelines while bringing the produce to procurement centres.
Paddy was cultivated in about 2.26 lakh hectares and five lakh metric tonnes of paddy was expected to be produced in the season. As many as 439 procurement centres have been set up in the villages across the district to procure paddy, he informed.
Training for Farmer Producer Organisations
Later in the day, Karnan addressed a gathering at a two-day training cum awareness programme for the members of Farmer Producer Organisations’ (FPOs) organised by the District Horticulture and Sericulture Department.
He asked the farmers, who were members of ten FPOs established by the department, to make efforts to grow as entrepreneurs by building up a share capital. Steps have to be taken to add more number of farmers to the FPOs.
The farmers have to improve their marketing knowledge so that they would be able to decide the price of the agriculture produce, Karnan said. He distributed registration certificates to the FPOs that have been registered under the Companies Act.
Khammam District Rythu Bandhu Samithi president N Venkateshwar Rao suggested to chilli farmers and mango growers to export the produce to foreign countries by learning about export methods.
TS Horticulture and Sericulture Development Corporation Deputy Director B Babu and District Horticulture and Sericulture Officer G Anasuya have assured all possible help to the farmers from the department.
