Yadadri-Bhongir: Chief Electoral Officer Dr Shashank Goel on Wednesday said that an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) testing centre would be set up in Yadadri-Bhongir district.
Speaking after inaugurating EVMs and VVPATs godown building on the premises of the new Collectorate complex in the district, Dr Shashank Goel said EVMs and VVPATs godowns were sanctioned to 22 districts in the State. Out of them, the construction of 20 godowns was completed. Construction of EVM godowns at Kamareddy and Narayanpet would be completed by the end of this year. It was decided to construct special godowns for the protection of EVMs and VVPATs, he said.
He instructed the booth level officers to prepare the voter list of special summary revision after corrections. Capturing of addresses of voters and polling stations would be completed through Geographical Information System (GIS).
Goel also directed the officials to conduct programmes of Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) in colleges to educate young voters about the importance of voting right in democracy. He also underlined the need to widely publicize GARUDA mobile app, which helps voters locate their polling station.
District Collector Pamela Sathpathi and other officials attended the programme.
