Khammam: District Collector VP Gautham asked the officials to make efforts for the expansion of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MGNREGS) works at field level in the district. He addressed MPDOs, MPOs, APOs and technical assistants at a three-day training programme on the NREGS in Khammam here on Tuesday. Officials should understand the importance of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) 2005 and the scheme so as to ensure its effective implementation.
Though introduced 15 years ago, the MGNREGA was gaining importance day by day. It envisions creating community assets in rural areas on a permanent basis by means of guaranteed employment to poor labourers, Guatham explained. There was no limit for taking up the works under the scheme. The scheme’s impact in the villages must be visible. The MPDOs have to take responsibility for its implementation in an effective manner by coordinating with all line departments, he suggested.
District Rural Development Officer, Vidyachandana and ZP CEO, V V Appa Rao were present.
