Siddipet: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders were up in arms on Monday in protest against the BJP government at the Centre which has decided not procure Yasangi Paddy from the State, pushing the paddy farmer into distress.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao, who participated in the protest programme organised by the party in Gajwel, said the Union government was not carrying out its responsibilities while the State government led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has been working overwhelmingly well. “Providing food security to the nation is the Constitutional responsibility of the Centre which was discharged efficiently by governments in the last 70 years,” Harish Rao said, adding that the Narendra Modi government had failed to discharge it’s duty only for political gains in Telangana. He called upon the people to teach a lesson to the Union government.

Exposing the double standards of the BJP leadership, the Minister said the State leaders were misguiding the farmers, asking them to cultivate paddy while their Central leadership was talking against it. He demanded that Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Redy and BJP Sate President Bandi Sanjay come out with a clear Statement on whether the Centre will procure boiled rice. “The State BJP leaders are misleading the farmers only for political gains,” he added.

He said the TRS government has been providing 24X7 free power supply, irrigation water spending Rs 1.5 lakh crores, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, making available enough seeds and fertilisers and other inputs.

Lashing out at the BJP saying several farmers had burnt garlic crop in Madhya Pradesh where the BJP is in power, Harish Rao accused the Congress and BJP governments of ignoring the interests of farmers who committed suicide. “Every farmer in Telangana who dies is being paid Rs five lakh under Rythu Bima within 10 days of his or her death, irrespective of the cause,” he said, and pointed out that prices of all essential commodities and petrol, gas, edible oil had shot up under the BJP government. The Centre is now planning to install electricity meters at borewells and increase the prices of fertlisers and other agriculture inputs, he said.

MLC Dr V Yadava Reddy, Forest Development Corporation Chairman Vanteru Prathap Reddy, Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation Chairman Erolla Srinivas and others were present.

Meanwhile, MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy participated in the protest programme in Dubbak, Husnabad MLA V Sathish Kumar led the protest in Husnabad. The protest programmes were organised from village level to district headquarters by TRS leaders.
