Hyderabad: In a move that is likely to trigger opposition from employees, the State government has decided to introduce facial recognition attendance system to record the attendance of all employees working at the Secretariat. Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari issued a circular to this effect on Tuesday.

The objective behind introducing facial recognition system was said to enhance accuracy, efficiency and security in attendance. The system uses advanced technology to verify individual identifies through facial features, eliminating the need for manual signing and seamless attendance recording.

The registration of employees and outsourcing staff will commence from Friday. All the regular and outsourcing staff has been directed to carry their ID card and the last month pay slip for registration.

Face recognizing devices will be installed in adequate number at all entry and exit points of the building besides on each floor, near the lifts and at the respective departments, the circular said.

It may be recalled that last month, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) had stressed that there was constant surveillance on personnel posted on security duty at Secretariat. He had also instructed TGSP personnel and officers not to post, share, like or comment on any messages against TGSP system, police officers and State government on social media platforms.

However, the TGSP has been replaced with Telangana Special Protection Force (TGSPF) for security at the Secretariat on October 30.
