Hyderabad: Hundreds of families facing displacement for the proposed development along Musi River joined hands and marched in unison to protest against the State government’s plans for the Gandhi Sarovar project on Sunday morning.
When BRS working protest KT Rama Rao joined their ‘Musi Dandi’ March, the protestors poured out their anguish before him at the way their properties were sought to be taken over without their consent. Interacting with Rama Rao, family after family narrated their woes at the looming prospects of displacement and being asked to give away their hard-earned properties. Teary-eyed, some lamented at having to lose their dwelling, while some women cried, asking for help.
The march criss-crossed the dusty roads of several residential colonies, including Shiva Puri Colony, Dattatreya Colony, Sri Vigneshwara Colony, Dream Homes Colony, Karywell Homes, PG Colony, Vishal Nagar and Sai Ram Nagar, at Hydershakote. It covered nearly 10 colonies and residents living alongside the Musi River banks, both upstream and downstream, and concluded at Kendriya Vihar Phase-3. Members of several resident welfare associations (RWAs) also joined in.
During the nearly 3 km-long march, Rama Rao interacted with the families and patiently listened to their woes. He assured his and the BRS party’s support to the oustees. As Rama Rao was speaking to them, some women wept while narrating how they fought the odds, worked hard and struggled to pay bank loans for the flats which the State government was now seeking to acquire.
At Madhu Park Ridge apartment, he met 450 families whose properties are to be affected by the Gandhi Sarovar project.
