Hyderabad: Unidentified persons cheated a farmer from Shankarpalli in Chevella mandal to the tune of over Rs 1 lakh. They lured him using a phishing message on lucky draw, police said.

Police said the suspect sent an SMS to the victim’s mobile phone with a link informing the mobile number had won a luck draw worth Rs 10 lakh. To claim the prize money, the victim clicked on the phishing link and asked to fill in his personal details and bank details, which he did.

“Within few minutes, the money from his account was deducted in installments. He received messages from the bank and only then he realized he was cheated,” police said.

Based on his complaint, the Cyberabad Cyber Crime police have booked a case and taken up investigation.
