Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Farmers in several parts of the district complained of inconvenience due to a shortage of urea, with many waiting for hours to make purchases at Dahegaon and Asifabad mandal headquarters on Monday.
They said they were forced to wait for nearly two hours at primary agricultural cooperative societies to buy fertiliser, which disrupted their farm activities.
“We are unable to take up farm work as we keep roaming around centres to purchase urea and DAP,” a group of farmers said, urging officials to ensure adequate stocks at the societies.
Some alleged that private traders were overpricing urea in view of the shortage, and urged officials to curb the practice by inspecting fertiliser outlets. They also accused certain organisers of the societies of diverting fertilisers to Maharashtra to make a quick profit.
However, Agriculture Department officials denied the allegations. They said farmers were competing with each other to stockpile fertilisers and insisted that adequate quantities of urea and other fertilisers had been dispatched to the societies.
“Farmers should avoid buying more urea than they require,” the officials advised.
