Nirmal: Farmers from several villages staged a rasta-roko on the Kubheer-Bhainsa road on Monday, demanding quality power supply for agricultural needs.
Farmers from Kubheer and neighbouring villages blocked traffic on the road to protest against interruptions in power supply, which they said were causing crops to wither. The protesters said power outages had become a regular affair and urged officials to ensure quality power supply for agricultural needs. They raised slogans against the officials over the outages. They declared that they would not withdraw the road blockade until officials promised to provide power for 15 hours a day.
Due to the protest, traffic on both sides of the road came to a grinding halt for over two hours. Motorists expressed displeasure over the traffic blockade. On receiving information, NPDCL officials reached the spot and held consultations with the farmers. They assured the farmers that steps would be taken to provide quality electricity for agricultural needs.
Following the assurance, the farmers withdrew the protest. BRS mandal president Ennila Anil, SC cell president Empalka Nagesh and hundreds of farmers took part in the protest.
