Hyderabad: Farmers in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s home district, Mahabubnagar, too are facing a shortage of urea and are being forced to stand in serpentine queues at the District Cooperative Marketing Society (DCMS).
To make matters worse, farmers allege that officials have imposed new rules allowing only one bag per farmer. Despite waiting in queues for long hours, they complain that officials issue tokens selectively, leaving many frustrated.
With rains lashing the State in recent days, this is a crucial period for intensifying farming operations. Farmers lament that instead of working in their fields, they are compelled to spend hours in queues.
“If this is the situation in the Chief Minister’s district, imagine the plight of farmers in other districts. Why has the government not maintained sufficient stocks in advance?” a farmer asked, according to reports.
Meanwhile, traders dealing in fertilisers are reportedly exploiting the situation. Farmers who approach them for urea at exorbitant prices are being compelled to buy other commodities from their outlets as well, reports added.
