Suryapet: Farmers in the Ramaji Thanda area near Suryapet voiced their concerns over the impending water crisis under the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) Stage II. The farmers organised a protest on the canal road urging the government to ensure adequate water supply to meet their irrigation needs. The protest was supported by the local BJP leaders also.
The SRSP Stage II, which primarily serves the tail-end areas of Nalgonda, Suryapet, Kodad, and Huzurnagar, is facing severe water scarcity due to the prolonged closure of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) barrages. This situation has left nearly two lakh acres of Yasangi (Rabi) ayacut in jeopardy.
Farmers feared that without proper water management and regulation, their crops would wither, leading to losses. They demanded timely release and equitable distribution of water to enable them to raise Rabi crops.
