Choutuppal: Hundreds of farmers and landowners staged a demonstration in front of the Choutuppal Revenue Divisional Office (RDO) on Friday, protesting against arbitrary alterations made to the Regional Ring Road (RRR) alignment. The demonstrators accused officials of deviating from the original plan to favour influential persons, resulting in the loss of fertile agricultural lands for others.
The Regional Ring Road, a 362-kilometre expressway encircling Hyderabad and covering seven districts including Yadadri-Bhongir, has been at the centre stage for land acquisition disputes since its inception. The project, jointly funded by the central and State governments, aims to connect key areas like Sangareddy, Toopran, Gajwel, Bhongir, and Choutuppal.
However, recent revisions to the southern stretch, now spanning 201 km from Choutuppal to Sangareddy, have ignited fresh outrage among locals.
Protesters, who are mainly from villages in Choutuppal, Narayanapur, Bhongir, Turkapally, Valigonda, and Yadagirigutta mandals, raised slogans against the Telangana government, alleging that the new alignment was illegally shifted to benefit “influential persons” in the ruling party. The dharna was organised under the aegis of the RRR Project Oustees’ Forum.
