Kumram Bheem Asifabad/Mancherial: Farmers staged protests on Monday in several parts of Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial districts, accusing agriculture officials of failing to resolve the acute shortage of urea.
In Bejjur mandal centre, farmers staged a rasta roko demanding the immediate supply of urea. They said they had been waiting for over a month, braving rains and scorching sun, and warned of losses if fertiliser was not applied to paddy and cotton crops within a week.
At Penchikalpet mandal headquarters, farmers confronted officials, stopping a vehicle as part of their protest. They complained that they were forced to wait for long hours to procure fertiliser due to the scarcity and demanded urgent measures to ease the shortage so they could focus on farming.
Meanwhile, farmers thronged agriculture societies and urea outlets in Bheerama and Jannaram mandal centres from as early as 7 am. They formed serpentine queues in the hope of securing supplies, expressing anger that the shortage persisted despite repeated appeals and protests.
