HYDERABAD: Due to unseasonal rains and the delay in procurement, farmers stocks got soaked at different places in Yadadri Bhongir and Nagarkurnool districts on Tuesday evening.
Accompanied with gusty winds, there was a sudden downpour in Nagarkurnool district. Farmers, who had carried the maize stocks to the procurement centres, struggled to protect the stocks.
Amidst the heavy rains and gusty winds, they were seen covering the stocks with tarpaulin sheets. However, their efforts were futile, as majority of the stocks got soaked. Farmers complained that since last few days’ officials had been delaying procurement, citing different reasons, according to reports.
Similarly, due to the sudden downpour at different places in Yadadri Bhongir, farmers suffered losses as their stocks got soaked. At the paddy procurement centres in Atmakur, Mothkur, Gundala and Addaguduru mandals, farmers had carried their stocks from different villages.
However, the rains resulted in losses for the farmers. They are now worried over the procurement of their stocks and demand the government to bail them out of crisis.
Earlier in the day, Nakrekal former MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah had visited the procurement centre at Itipamula and interacted with farmers. He charged that the State government due its poor planning was leaving the farmers in distress.
There was no coordination between the officials and rice millers and despite farmers carrying their stocks to the procurement centres, the exercise was being delayed invariably, he said according to reports.
