Father defeats son in gram panchayat poll battle in Medak

In a rare electoral contest, Mangegalla Ramakrishnaiah defeated his younger son Venkatesh in the gram panchayat elections at Jhansilingapur village, Ramayampet mandal, Medak district. The unusual father-son contest became a highlight of this year’s gram panchayat elections in the district.

Medak: In an intensely fought contest, a man defeated his own son in the second phase of gram panchayat elections held at Jhansi Lingapur village in Ramayampet mandal on Sunday.

Mangegalla Ramakrishnaiah emerged victorious by securing 684 votes, while his younger son Venkatesh secured 585 votes. Ramakrishnaiah won the election with a margin of 99 votes.

Despite repeated efforts by family members to persuade Venkatesh to withdraw from the contest, he chose to remain in the fray. The remaining members of the family, including Ramakrishnaiah’s elder son, extended their support to the father.

The direct electoral contest between a father and son became a major talking point during the gram panchayat elections this year in the district.
