Hyderabad: Interest among candidates on teaching profession in the State appears to be tapering as the Telangana Teacher Eligibility Test (TG TET) 2025 registrations are on the wane.

In response to the State government’s TG TET – June 2025 notification, a total of 1,83,653 candidates registered, which was over 1 lakh and 92,000 fewer applications compared to the last exams held in January 2025 and June 2024, as the registrations concluded on Wednesday.

The registrations have been seeing gradual decrease since the last three examinations with 4,78,055 applications received in 2023, which has come down to 2,86,386 for the June 2024 exam and 2,75,773 for the January 2025 exam.

According to details released by the School Education Department, this time 63,261 candidates registered for the paper – I, conducted for aspirants seeking teaching eligibility for Classes, I to V. As for paper – II, held to determine eligibility to teach Classes VI to VIII, 1,20,392 aspirants applied. In the last exam, 94,335 candidates registered for the paper – I, and 1,81,438 aspirants applied for paper – II.

One among several reasons for drop in the applications may be attributed to validity of the test, which has been enhanced from seven years to lifetime. Barring a few seeking improvement in the scores, the teacher job aspirants have not been appearing for the test.

Meanwhile, candidates who applied for the TET have been given an opportunity to edit their application on the website https://schooledu.telangana.gov.in/ till May 3. Online exam will be conducted between June 15 and 30. A detailed examination schedule will be released at a later date, the department said.
