Financial crisis forces fertilizer trader, niece to end lives in Telangana’s Adilabad
According to a suicide note purportedly written by Ashok, the fertilizer trader lend Rs 60 lakh to Rakender of Hasnpur village. He was depressed when Rakender did not repay the loan despite repeated requests
Adilabad:Financial crisis forced a fertilizer outlet owner and his niece to end their lives by consuming pesticide at Undam village in Thalamadugu mandal on Saturday.
Adilabad Rural Inspector K Phanidhar who probed into the double suicide, said that the reason behind the extreme step of Akula Rakesh (35) from Kapparla village in Tamsi mandal and his niece Spandana (19) was the financial crisis of Ashok. Ashok was operating the fertilizer outlet in Adilabad town.
According to a suicide note purportedly written by Ashok, the fertilizer trader lend Rs 60 lakh to Rakender of Hasnpur village. He was depressed when Rakender did not repay the loan despite repeated requests. He too borrowed around Rs 50 lakh from local money lenders. He was distressed over his inability to repay his loans.
Ashok along with his wife Lavanya, daughter Prashamsa and Spandana visited their agriculture field at Undam village. He informed his relatives that he, Lavanya and Spandana consumed the pesticide over the phone. The relatives immediately shifted Ashok, Lavanya and Spandana to RIMS-Adilabad.
Doctors declared that Ashok and Spandana were brought dead. Lavanya was undergoing treatment. Her medical condition was said to be stable.
Based on a complaint received from Nagesh, the brother of Lavanya, a case of abetment of suicide was registered against Rakender and investigations were taken up. It was learnt that Rakender had defaulted on several loans as well.
