Hyderabad: The State Health Department has launched all out efforts to upgrade the existing fire safety systems across all the healthcare institutions that fall under the jurisdiction of Director of Medical Education (DME) and Telangana Vaidya Vidhan Parishad (TVVP) in the State.
Following stray incidents of fire at a few State-run healthcare institutions including the recent one at Gandhi Hospital, the senior health officials have now decided to address the issue of fire safety in the coming months. The State government, on its part, had recently sanctioned funds worth Rs 31 crore to plug the deficiencies.
A few months ago, the health wing had set-up a team of senior doctors and hospital administrators to undertake a study and identify deficiencies in the existing fire-fighting systems in government hospitals under DME and TVVP in Telangana.
The team of doctors in coordination with superintendents of respective government hospitals had identified the deficiencies and came up with recommendations, which have been submitted to the State government. Prior to that, the Fire Services Department of the State government also had identified fire safety deficiencies in government hospitals and submitted a report.
“We had submitted proposals to take up repairs and address the deficiencies at all the government hospitals under DME and TVVP. The State government has already sanctioned an amount of Rs 31 crore for the installation of fire safety systems in all government hospitals. Hopefully, we should be able to take-up the installation activities at the earliest,” Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr K Ramesh Reddy said.
The State government through GO Rt No 608, released by Secretary, Health, SAM Rizvi a few days ago, has instructed the DME and MD, Telangana State Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC) to coordinate and install the fire safety systems at the earliest.
