Hyderabad: As part of Operation Muskan-VII drive in Rachakonda, five minor boys were rescued from child labour in Chaitanyapuri and Nacharam here on Tuesday.
In the first incident, the LB Nagar She Team rescued two minor boys who were found engaged in child labour at a battery shop and fruit stall in Chaitanyapuri. Following a tip-off, the She Team along with Child Welfare Department officials reached the spot and found the minor boys in their early teens working in the battery shop and fruit stalls under hazardous and unhygienic conditions. The two were counseled and handed over to their parents. The shop owners were counseled and warned of legal action for engaging children for work.
In another incident, the She Team from Malkajgiri rescued three minor boys found working at Prakash Industries in Nacharam. They were counseled and sent to Cherish Foundation in Medipally for shelter.
Child marriage averted
The Rachakonda Police She Team from LB Nagar division averted a child marriage and rescued a minor girl here on Tuesday. The parents of the minor girl from Mansoorabad in LB Nagar had fixed her wedding with a youngster next week and were preparing for the wedding.
“We received information that elders of both sides had fixed the wedding. We went to their houses and counseled their families on the negative impacts of early marriages and others. They then called off the wedding,” police said. Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat, appreciating the good work of the She Teams, requested citizens not to encourage child marriages as it was a crime.
Priests, wedding invitation printers, elders and supporters of the marriage and parents of the child would be held responsible, he said. Citizens could report child marriages on Dial 100 facility or the Rachakonda Police WhatsApp number -9490617111.
