Hyderabad: The removal of flexis and banners wishing former Minister and BRS senior leader T Harish Rao on his birthday near Telangana Bhavan has sparked political outrage. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials took down the material during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, reportedly following orders from higher authorities.
The incident drew sharp criticism from the BRS, which termed it a targeted act of political vendetta by the Congress government.
Several BRS leaders, including MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Errolla Srinivas, Y Satish Reddy and Manne Krishank, accused the Revanth Reddy government of double standards. They questioned why flexis of Congress and BJP leaders were allowed to remain for months while those of BRS leaders were promptly removed.
“This is not governance, it’s petty politics,” said Krishna Rao, adding that Harish Rao, who played a key role in the Telangana movement, deserves respect. He said such actions only reflect the Congress government’s insecurity.
BRS leader Errolla Srinivas called it “vile and despicable politics”, alleging that the flexi removal was aimed at suppressing dissent. “Just by tearing down banners, you cannot erase the people’s admiration for Harish Rao,” he said.
Satish Reddy warned that officials indulging in such acts would not be spared once BRS returns to power. Manne Krishank criticised what he called the BJP’s low-level politics and wished Harish Rao good health in confronting the Congress government.
