Hyderabad: Food poisoning cases in the State government-run schools continue unabated, with 60 students now falling ill after consuming food in their respective schools in Hyderabad.
In the first incident, as many as 44 students of Government Primary School Chandu Nayak Thanda in Madhapur here fell ill after having the mid-day meal.
While 107 students consumed the meal comprising rice, dal and kesari (sweet), which was supplied by an agency, 44 students complained of nausea and vomiting.
A total of 38 students were rushed to Area Hospital in Kondapur, while six students, reportedly in serious condition, were shifted to a private hospital in the area.
According to an education department official, students faced uneasiness after consuming the sweet. “In the morning, students had bonda, which was served as part of a special occasion. After having lunch, students complained of vomiting. Immediately, ambulances were called, and all students were shifted to the hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The condition of all students is out of danger. Samples of food supplied by the agency were normal. The issue might have occurred due to bonda,” the official added.
In another case, 16 students of the Telangana Minority Residential School, Bagh Lingampally, faced suspected food poisoning after having dinner on Thursday.
Students who complained of nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain were shifted to the Government Hospital King Koti here on Friday, where they are undergoing treatment.
Speaking to reporters, one of the doctors at the hospital said one student had moderate dehydration, and the remaining students were in a stable condition.
Just last month, several students of the SC Residential School and College in Shaikpally of Ieeja mandal, Jogulamba Gadwal district, fell ill due to suspected food poisoning. They consumed Jeera rice for breakfast, following which they faced health issues. A few days before this incident in the same district, 50 students were hospitalised, reportedly due to food poisoning at BC Hostel at Dharmavaram.
