Hyderabad: The new food processing policy primarily aims to provide value addition and better pricing for the farmer, besides ensuring that consumers get good quality products, said Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar. Participating in a conference organised by industry body FTCCI on ‘Telangana Food Processing Policy’, the Chief Secretary said land has been identified for setting up the food processing zones across the State. Each zone will include common facilities like cold storage facilities, and quality testing laboratories.
The State government which has focused on creating irrigation facilities that resulted in increased agriculture production was now focusing on value addition to farmers and opined that entrepreneurs had a great role to play, he said.
In reply to the queries raised by the entrepreneurs, he assured them that the policy aims to encourage more private players in the food processing sector. Those, who had earlier missed, would be allowed to apply again at an appropriate time. During the session, entrepreneurs raised queries relating to land allocation at a concessional rate, subsidies, partnering with private agencies for skill development, branding for Telangana Sona rice etc, among others.
Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, FTCCI officials Bhaskar Reddy, Sunil Reddy, Anil Agarwal and Anil Kumar Gawar were present, a release said.
