Hyderabad: With the Yadadri temple all set to be reopened for devotees next month after the ongoing renovation project, the prime focus of the police is now on strengthening the security apparatus at the hilltop shrine, which has already emerged as the spiritual capital of Telangana.
On the lines of the security system at Tirumala, the Rachakonda Police have proposed to appoint a Chief Vigilance and Security Officer (CVSO) apart from putting in place about 500 surveillance cameras to keep an eye on the entire hill.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has Gopinath Jatti, a senior IPS officer, as its CVSO. He is assisted by about 3,000 personnel including several senior police officials in maintaining strict vigil and security on the atop the hill.
The Rachakonda Police, who studied the TTD’s security structure, are planning to strengthen the security on Yadadri and all roads leading to the temple with the help of the Yadadri Temple Development Authority (YTDA).
“A proposal was sent to the State government seeking to setting up a special Vigilance and Surveillance wing and to appoint an IPS rank officer as the CVSO and staff for security at the temple. Although not on a grand scale like in Tirumala, we are planning to first have a force of about 300 personnel including Additional Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police, Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors,” a senior police official told Telangana Today.
This will be apart from the armed police component already stationed at Yadadri, he said, adding that depending on the footfall and requirement, the force deployed would be scaled up.
“We have already written to the government in this regard putting forth requirements. A nod is awaited, following which necessary steps will be taken up,” he said.
Apart from this, the Rachakonda Police have are also planning to increase the workforce by an additional 150 personnel and have recently requested the government to provide with the required force.
“There are already two stations of Special Police Force (SPF) comprising personnel from the State Police currently stationed at the temple premises. They primarily safeguard the temple jewelry, valuables and property. More force is required to meet the requirement for the temple security,” the official said.
The police have also proposed to setup a strong CCTV network with more than 500 surveillance cameras on the temple hill and surroundings.
“As of now, the process of installing around 100 surveillance cameras is being taken up on the premises. We have requested for 500 more cameras to maintain a stricter vigilance when the devotees throng the temple. About 10 cameras at the temple can only provide basic surveillance. We want every part of the hilltop, guest houses, rooms and roads leading to the temple including the Outer Ring Road to be covered,” the official added.
