Suryapet: Responding to pleas from farmers facing a drought-like situation that left crops and seedbeds wilting in the district, former Minister and Suryapet MLA G Jagadish Reddy released water to the Musi Left Canal in Suryapet district on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he lambasted the Congress government under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for neglecting the agricultural sector. He said the Chief Minister was prioritizing political maneuvers over farmers’ welfare.
He also criticized the government’s failure to respond to the pleas of farmers for release of water from the Musi project and said Revanth Reddy lacked the time or wisdom to provide water to farmers. While he makes frequent trips to Delhi, farmers’ hardships were being ignored, he said, adding that the Congress regime was mismanaging irrigation projects, particularly the Kaleshwaram Project, which could irrigate up to 40 lakh acres across districts like Nizamabad, Medak, Karimnagar, Warangal, and Nalgonda if utilized properly.
“One button at Kannepalli Pump House could deliver water to the last acre,” Reddy asserted, emphasizing that the project had transformed Telangana into an agricultural hub. Reddy further alleged that the government’s focus on sand mining and political alliances, particularly with Andhra Pradesh’s leadership, has led to the neglect of critical irrigation infrastructure like the Kaleshwaram Project.
He demanded immediate activation of the Kannepalli Pump House to channel Godavari waters to farmers, warning that the Congress’s policies have pushed Telangana back into drought.
“The government’s failure is evident in the dried-up fields,” Reddy said, urging Revanth Reddy to apologize to the people and prioritize effective governance to alleviate farmers’ suffering.
