Kothagudem: BRS leader and former MLA Vanama Venkateswara Rao condemned rumours circulating on social media that he was likely to join the BJP, and said the propaganda was aimed at defaming him and his family.
Speaking to the media at his residence here on Monday, he made it clear that he would remain in the BRS until his last breath, supporting the leadership of party chief K Chandrashekhar Rao and working president KT Rama Rao.
Venkateswara Rao appealed to party cadres not to believe the misinformation being spread about him. He said he had joined the BRS when it was in power and would continue to remain with the party even though it was not in power now.
He recalled working in the Congress party for about 40 years before joining the BRS, inspired by the way Chandrashekhar Rao achieved separate Telangana State. He said he would continue in politics to serve the people and the party.
The former MLA said he came from an ordinary middle-class family and had risen from the level of sarpanch, been elected as an MLA five times, and also served as a minister in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Winning and losing elections was not new to him, he remarked.
He said he was aware of those behind the false campaign against his family and added that things would become clear in due course. There was no need for BRS activists and leaders in Kothagudem constituency to feel discouraged, he said.
Those from outside the constituency were deliberately trying to indulge in group politics, Venkateswara Rao said, adding that he was ready to face them. He further said he would soon meet Chandrashekhar Rao and Rama Rao to explain the problems faced by the people.
