SP Akhil Mahajan examines ganja trees seized from the accused persons at Salyada village in Echoda mandal on Tuesday.
Adilabad: Four persons were arrested on charges of cultivating ganja as an intercrop in their farms at Salyada village in Echoda mandal on Tuesday. Police seized 180 ganja plants worth Rs 18 lakh from the four.
Briefing details of the arrests to the media, Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said Chahakati Sonerao, Durwa Lavakush, Arka Jangabapu and Durwa Arun, all from Salyada village, were apprehended for raising the crop following a tip-off. A case was registered and investigations were taken up.
During interrogation, the four confessed to committing the crime to make a fast buck by growing the crop. While Sonerao raised 17 plants, Lavakush and Jangubapu grew 86 and 31 plants of ganja respectively. Arun raised 46 plants. They admitted to cultivating the crop to sell it to potential buyers from different parts of the district.
The SP urged the public to share information of illegal activities by contacting him through WhatsApp on 87126 59973. He stated that special teams were formed to eradicate the menace by detecting suppliers, traders and consumers. He commended police officials for conducting raids and seizing the crop.
Utnoor ASP Kajal Singh, Echoda Inspector Bheemesh and Sub-Inspector Thirupathi were present.
