Adilabad: Farmers said they would be forced to die by hanging if meters were installed on motors at their farms. They staged a protest against the installation of meters on farm motors, carrying ropes near a power transformer at Mukhra (K) village in Echoda mandal on Saturday.
The agitating farmers suspected that Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy might have entered into an agreement with the Union government to install meters on motors at agricultural fields. They stated that they would be left with no option but to commit suicide if such an agreement was implemented. They said that farmers were facing a slew of challenges under the Congress government.
The farmers recalled that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had prevented the Centre from installing meters on farm motors. Rao introduced several schemes for the welfare of farmers. However, farmers were now struggling to sell their produce and buy fertilisers. They said they would be forced to die by hanging if meters were installed on motors used for extracting groundwater to irrigate crops.
Former Sarpanch Gadge Meenakshi, former MPTC member Subhash, residents Dattu, Maruthi, Prahlad, Venkat, Tulsiram, Thirupathi and Vittal, along with farmers, were present.
