Hyderabad: Improving connectivity and moving closer to the much-awaited decongestion of high-density traffic areas in the IT Corridor, five link roads that connect vital road stretches in and around the IT hub were inaugurated by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister KT Rama Rao here on Monday.

“After this project started, our engineers are getting calls from different parts of the country including Mumbai seeking inputs on the link roads. As far as I know, no other Municipal Corporation has taken up such a project at this massive level,” the Minister said, adding that so far 16 link roads in the city were already developed while six more would be developed in a month. He also said Phase-II of the works to connect the missing links and to develop roads had already commenced.

“In Phase Two, development of four roads is already underway with Rs 66 crore. A total of 13 roads running up to 21.98 km will be developed with Rs 232.62 crore in Phase-II,” the Minister said, adding that all the roads would be developed in a phased manner and that the details would be uploaded on the GHMC website.

The Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL) in the first phase has developed 22 link roads with Rs 313.65 crore. Listing out a series of developmental works, the Minister said many flyovers and underpasses were built under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) at a cost of Rs 6,000 crore while main roads were being restored under the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP) with Rs 1,800 crore.

“Apart from these developmental works, 133 link roads will be developed in a phased manner,” the Minister said, pointing out that under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the city was developing on all fronts, across all sectors. The five link roads that were thrown open for commuters on Monday include two link roads connecting the Nizampet crossroads to HITEX Junction, from the Miyapur Metro Depot to Kondapur Masjid Junction, the Novotel Hotel road connecting to the RTA office and the JV Hills Park to Masjid Banda road.
