Four scribes arrested for extorting trader in Khammam
It was alleged the scribes who work for vernacular newspapers and TV channels have on intercepted a trader named Katari Pulla Rao while he was reportedly transporting 10 quintals of PDS rice
Khammam: Four scribes were arrested for extortion and blackmailing a trader at Sathupalli in the district. According to Kallur ACP Venkatesh, the journalists in question are Tadikamalla Appa Rao, also works as manager of Shuba Nandini Chit Funds, Chintoji Ramesh, Aidupalapati Krishna and Komarapu Vasudeva, who were remanded on Friday.
It was alleged the scribes who work for vernacular newspapers and television channels have on Wednesday night intercepted a trader named Katari Pulla Rao of Mandalapalli in Dammapet mandal while he was reportedly transporting 10 quintals of PDS rice in an auto-rickshaw.
They demanded Rs 30,000 cash from the trader and snatched away Rs 24,000 along with a mobile phone from his possession. They also demanded him to pay the remaining amount to get back his phone.
Following the incident, Pulla Rao lodged a complaint with Sathupalli police who handed over the rice and auto-rickshaw to the Civil Supplies Department, said CI Ramakanth. Investigation is under way.
