Free power supply provided to 51,207 Ganesh pandals

TGSPDCL supplied free power to 51,207 Ganesh pandals across Telangana during 2026–27, with a sanctioned load of 1,12,586 kW and expenditure of nearly Rs 17.80 crore. The utility also deployed special monitoring arrangements at major immersion centres

Hyderabad: Amid the significant rise in power demand across the State due to the El Nino impact, Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) extended free power supply to 51,207 Ganesh pandals under its jurisdiction.

During the financial year 2026–27, a total of 51,207 Ganesh idols and pandals were registered across the 21 circles under TGSPDCL. For these installations, a total connected load of 1,12,586 kW was sanctioned, and the government bore an electricity expenditure of nearly Rs 17.80 crore, officials said.

Within the GHMC, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and Cyberabad Corporation limits, covering the circles of Banjara Hills, Hyderabad Central, Hyderabad South, Secunderabad, Cyber City, Rajendranagar, Saroornagar, Habsiguda and Medchal, 20,128 Ganesh idols and pandals were installed. A sanctioned load of 60,217 kW was provided for these installations, with an estimated electricity expenditure of Rs 9.04 crore.

Compared to the previous year (2025–26), the number of Ganesh pandals increased from 47,649 to 51,207. Similarly, the sanctioned electrical load increased from 98,627 kW to 1,12,586 kW, while electricity expenditure rose from Rs 15.59 crore to Rs 17.80 crore, officials said.

Special monitoring arrangements were made at major immersion centres, including Hussain Sagar, Tank Bund, NTR Marg, IDL Lake, Saroornagar, Uppal, Durgam Cheruvu, Medchal and Rajendranagar.

TGSPDCL CMD Jitesh V Patil said priority was accorded to public safety and that power department personnel remained constantly vigilant throughout the festival period. Owing to the coordinated efforts of all departments and the dedication of electricity employees, the Ganesh festivities were completed successfully without any untoward incidents, he said in a press release.
