From YouTube to OTT: Anil Geela on ‘Mothevari Love Story’ and his journey ahead
Anil Geela of My Village Show enters OTT with Mothevari Love Story, a rural family entertainer on Zee5 from August 8, blending village life, emotions, and aspirations beyond YouTube fame.
Hyderabad: Anil Geela, who rose to fame with My Village Show, is now stepping into the OTT world with Mothevari Love Story. Known for bringing the flavour of Telangana’s rural life to millions, the Dargapally native from Siddipet district has carved a unique space for himself as a content creator. In this exclusive chat with Telangana Today, he talks about his new venture, his creative path, and his plans for the future.
On how the series came to life
“I have been trying for film opportunities for the past three to four years, but nothing concrete happened. Then I thought starting with a web series could be a better way forward,” he says. That’s when Zee5 approached him. “They liked my content and asked us to create something in my style. Then our director narrated the story of Mothevari Love Story, they liked it and gave me the chance to do it. We planned everything carefully and worked towards a quality output.”
Why a rural backdrop again
“Stories from rural backgrounds are our strength,” he shares. “The Zee5 team was also keen on a Telangana village setting because that’s trending now. I already have a fan base in rural areas, so this decision made sense for both of us.”
What the series is about
Though the trailer shows a love story, Anil clarifies that the series is much more. “The main focus is family emotions, the bond between brothers, and the mindset of village life. It is a family entertainer with comedy, drama, and romance. It’s not just a love story,” he says. Interestingly, his role in the series is quite close to his real life, making it easier for him to perform.
While speaking about the show, Anil also addressed the recent buzz about his participation in Bigg Boss. “There are always rumours, but I am not a part of this season,” he says firmly, putting an end to the speculation.
Difference between YouTube and OTT
“The biggest difference is scale,” Anil explains. “On OTT, the cameras, the team, everything is five to six times bigger. And then there’s the promotion: posters, trailers, campaigns, that doesn’t happen on YouTube. Still, Zee5 gave us full creative freedom. They said what we delivered was beyond their expectations.”
Looking ahead
Anil says he wants to stick to rural stories for at least a year. “I already have two to three scripts with me. My plan is to move from YouTube to OTT and then to the big screen,” he adds. “In films today, character roles have lost weight. I want to bring that back with strong, rooted stories.”
With a fresh cast, natural Telangana dialect, and a focus on emotions, Mothevari Love Story is all set to stream from August 8 on Zee5.
Anil signs off with a thought that has guided his journey: “If you do good content, opportunities will come. Hard work and honest storytelling always find a way.”
